Ingredients
For the Trail Mix

- 3 cups makhana (fox nuts)
- 1 cup roasted peanuts
- 2 tbsp almonds
- 2 tbsp cashews
- 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds (optional)
- 1 tbsp sunflower seeds (optional)
- 1½ tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp Sarbu Rock Salt (adjust to taste)
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- ½ tsp roasted cumin powder
- 8–10 fresh curry leaves (optional, if permitted during your fast)
For Garnishing
- Dried coconut slices (optional)
- Fresh curry leaves (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Roast the Makhana
First, heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan over low heat. Next, add the makhana to the warm pan. Then, roast them for 6–8 minutes, stirring often. Once they become light and crisp, keep them aside.
Step 2: Roast the Nuts
Meanwhile, add the remaining ½ tablespoon ghee to the pan. After that, add the peanuts, almonds, and cashews. Then, roast the nuts for 2–3 minutes until lightly golden.
If using pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, mix them in at this stage. Finally, add the curry leaves and roast everything for another minute.
Step 3: Season the Trail Mix
Next, turn off the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. Afterward, sprinkle Sarbu Rock Salt, black pepper, and roasted cumin powder over the mixture. Then, toss everything gently so that the seasoning coats the ingredients evenly.
Step 4: Cool & Store
Finally, allow the trail mix to cool completely. Once cooled, transfer it to a clean, airtight container. Alternatively, serve the freshly prepared trail mix immediately.

Why Use Sarbu Rock Salt?
Sarbu Rock Salt (Sendha Namak) adds a clean and balanced taste to roasted makhana and nuts. Moreover, it enhances their natural flavors without making the seasoning too strong.
In addition, rock salt pairs well with roasted cumin and black pepper. As a result, the trail mix gets a simple yet flavorful finish. Therefore, only a small amount of Sarbu Rock Salt is needed to enhance the overall taste.
Chef’s Tips

- Add dried coconut chips for extra flavor and texture.
